The Practice of Antiseptic Surgery

The Practice of Antiseptic Surgery

Earlier in the year the University began to run an advertising campaign at the nearest subway station, the Hillhead Subway Station. A large poster highlights the accomplishments of some of the University’s most famous Alumni and their inventions, under the heading: “Welcome to the world-changing University of Glasgow”.

The first of these advertisements highlighted Joseph Lister (1827-1912) and his development of the practice of antiseptic surgery. This was followed by the person generally considered the University’s most famous son, Adam Smith, the father of modern economics. Presently the spot is highlighting Ian Donald, the developer of the ultrasound scan.

To find more about the ad campaign in relation to the alumni and the inventions, follow these links: Joseph Lister, Adam Smith, Ian Donald.
