Ceilidh [Party Week]

Ceilidh [Party Week]

If you’re planning on ever coming to Scotland, as a tourist, student or what not, you will undoubtably come across the concept of a cèilidh. A ceilidh is, according to Wikipedia:

…a traditional Gaelic social dance originating in Ireland and Scotland… extremely common in Scotland, where bands are hired, usually for evening entertainment for a wedding, birthday party or other celebratory event [and] public ceilids are also held…

This particular shot of a ceilidh is from a joint Amnesty International – British Red Cross – STAR (STudent Action for Refugees) Ceilidh which took place last March in the QMU’s Qudos to raise funds and awareness. The band, if I remember right, was the Glasgow University Celtic Music Group.

I know the photo (click on it for a larger version) doesn’t really show what the ceilidh is all about, so I’ll let someone on WikiAnswers.com provide the answer to what it’s like:

Probably the best party you could ever have.

I haven’t personally tried it yet, so I can’t say, although I can tell you it sure looks like a lot of fun!

This post is a part of Party Week (July 6th – 12th)
