BOB the Brutalist
That’s not an insult, that’s what the architectural style of the Boyd Orr Building is called: Brutalist Architecture, which had its glory days from the 1950s to the mid-1970s. The Boyd Orr Building opened in 1972 According to Wikipedia, the term actually comes from the French béton brut, meaning ‘raw concrete’. A fitting name for the architectural style of the ugliest building at Glasgow University, wouldn’t you say?
Then again, having looked at photos of other buildings from the same era, it doesn’t seem that bad, but it doesn’t seem very unconventional like other famous buildings in the same style. (Check the Wikipedia article for more examples.)
