A Drab Place for Maths
I keep coming back to this. I don’t really like the Maths Building. I think the only positive this I can say about it is that fortunately it’s not taller, and thus more visible. What makes the building more displeasing is what had to be bulldozed from under it in the 1960s.
University Gardens used to be surrounded on both sides by Victorian tenement buildings, just like the northern side still is. The only evidence of Victorian-era buildings on the southern side of University Gardens is the double-bill of the Hetherington House and George Service House.
I came up with a really random way of brightening up the Maths Building, which I’ll reveal in tomorrow’s post. (If there are any Maths students reading this who like the Maths Building, I apologize for blasting your building.)
