Imagine a time when this was the path you entered through to make your way into the University, passing under that arched gateway on your way to lectures. The gate itself used to be wooden, and most of Pearce Lodge is newer (late 1800s), but as I’ve mentioned before, the archway and the ledge above the University Avenue street sign were salvaged from the Old College on High Street when the old campus was sadly demolished. Now compare entering the University through this entrance wearing robes in the previous centuries, to walking into the 1960s buildings with a cup of coffee nowadays.
