N is for… Nightline [ABC Sundae]

N is for... Nightline [ABC Sundae]
0141 353 1050. That’s the number for a volunteer information and listening service, provided by the Students’ Representative Council (SRC). It operates every night during term time from 7pm to 7am and any student can call with their queries and worries, whether it’s to find out where that elusive exam hall is or to talk about what’s troubling you.

I’ve always wondered how often people actually call Nightline, and what about. What is the number one reason people call and when is it busier than usual? Exam time? Essay deadlines? That point a month or two into your first term at University when many people start to miss home or their family and friends or cat. When you realize that you’ve spent all your money at the Beer Bar or in Jim’s, and you’re down to your last packet of crisps, a half a pint of Tennent’s that’s been in the fridge for a week and a packet of noodles, which are unfortunately the one flavor you don’t like.

More information on Nightline here, and if you’re a student who’s interested in volunteering, this is the page for you.

Have you ever called Nightline, or volunteered to answer the phones and lend an ear?

ABC Sundae is a fortnightly theme day, occurring every other Sunday, one letter of the alphabet at a time. Click here for more ABC Sundae.
